Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar for the brownie layer until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Combine the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just blended and pour the brownie batter into the baking dish, spreading evenly.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy for the cookie layer. Blend in the egg and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Take spoonfuls of cookie dough and drop them on top of the brownie layer. It’s fine to let some brownie peek through.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with some fudgy crumbs.
- Let it cool in the dish before cutting into squares.
Notes
Chill your cookie dough for about 30 minutes before assembling for a thicker cookie layer. Feel free to add nuts or your favorite candies for a twist. A gooey center adds to the fudginess!
