Description
A comforting and easy-to-prepare autumn dish featuring tender pork slow-cooked in sweet apple cider with aromatic spices.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2–3 lbs of pork roast (shoulder or loin)
- 2 cups of apple cider
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2–3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2–3 apples, sliced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Sear the meat in a heavy, oven-safe pot with olive oil, seasoning with salt, pepper, and cinnamon.
- Add the chopped onions and garlic around the roast for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the apple cider, partially covering the roast, and scatter the apple slices on top.
- Braise in the oven for 2-3 hours until the pork is fork-tender.
- Rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to retain juicy flavors.
Notes
The sauce thickens during cooking, but you can simmer it on the stovetop after removing the roast if you prefer it thicker. Adding root veggies like carrots or potatoes can make the dish heartier.
