Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Breadcrumbs for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Make the cheese sauce by melting butter in the same pot, then whisk in flour for about a minute.
- Add milk slowly while stirring to avoid lumps. Cook until thickened.
- Stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted, then season with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Combine cooked macaroni with cheese sauce, ensuring all pasta is coated.
- Bake in a greased dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs if desired, for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Notes
For added flavor, swap some cheddar for Gruyère or Parmesan. If your cheese sauce is lumpy, stir well to smooth it out.
