Description
A comforting Southern dish featuring tender chicken simmered in rich gravy, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 chicken pieces (thighs and/or drumsticks)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup of flour (for dredging)
- 2 tablespoons of oil (for frying)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cups of chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Prep the chicken: Season your chicken with salt and pepper. Dredge each piece in flour, shaking off any excess.
- Fry the chicken: In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove the chicken and set it aside.
- Make the gravy: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent. Stir in the garlic powder and paprika, then slowly whisk in the chicken broth, scraping up any brown bits stuck to the bottom of the pan.
- Simmer the chicken: Return the fried chicken to the skillet, spoon some gravy over it, and reduce heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy: Once the chicken is cooked through and tender, serve with your choice of sides and garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
For a thicker gravy, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a bit of water before adding it to the broth. Pair with rice, mashed potatoes, cornbread, or roasted veggies for delightful sides.
