Description

The Dragon Roll combines shrimp tempura, creamy avocado, and fresh cucumbers with a tangy eel sauce, making it the perfect dish for impressing guests or enjoying a family dinner.

Ingredients

  • Sushi rice (1 cup)
  • Nori sheets (2 sheets)
  • Tempura shrimp (4 pieces)
  • Cucumber (1, julienned)
  • Avocado (1, sliced)
  • Eel sauce (for drizzling)
  • Soy sauce (for dipping)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Rice vinegar (1 tablespoon)
  • Sugar (1 tablespoon)
  • Salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sushi rice: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to the package instructions. Once cooked, mix in the rice vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Allow it to cool slightly.
  2. Lay out your nori: Place one sheet of nori, shiny side down, on a bamboo sushi mat. Wet your hands to prevent sticking and grab a handful of sushi rice (about ¾ cup). Spread it evenly over the nori, leaving about an inch at the top.
  3. Assemble the filling: Horizontally layer the tempura shrimp, julienned cucumber, and avocado slices across the center of the rice-covered nori.
  4. Roll it up: Using the bamboo mat, start rolling away from you, applying gentle pressure while rolling until you reach the top edge. Wet the exposed edge of the nori with a bit of water to seal it.
  5. Slice it up: With a sharp, wet knife, slice the roll into bite-sized pieces. Be gentle to keep everything intact!
  6. Add the finishing touches: Arrange the pieces on a plate, drizzle with eel sauce, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Notes

If you’re new to rolling sushi, don’t stress! It’s all about practice. Experiment with additional ingredients like spicy mayo or pickled ginger for your dipping sauce.
