- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces (for caramel)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until combined.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Spread the cookie dough evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat until melted.
- Add the butter and stir until melted and combined.
- Pour in the heavy cream, stirring slowly, and simmer for 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add the sea salt to taste.
- Pour the salted caramel over the cooled cookie bars, spreading it evenly.
- Cool completely before slicing into squares.
