Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Spread the cookie dough evenly in the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat until melted.
  10. Add the butter and stir until melted and combined.
  11. Pour in the heavy cream, stirring slowly, and simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  12. Remove from heat and add the sea salt to taste.
  13. Pour the salted caramel over the cooled cookie bars, spreading it evenly.
  14. Cool completely before slicing into squares.
