Instructions
- Cook the macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Make the cheese sauce by melting the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly.
- Whisk in the milk gradually, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add the shredded cheese to the sauce, stirring until melted.
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, stirring until coated. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Optional: mix in your favorite add-ins now.
- Serve immediately or transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle with more cheese, and bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes for a crispy top!
