Description
A simple yet flavorful tuna tart that combines pantry staples into a gourmet dish, perfect for dinner or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ready-made shortcrust pastry sheet
- 2 cans (160g each) of tuna in olive oil, drained
- 3 large eggs
- 200ml heavy cream
- 100ml milk
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 cup grated cheese (Gruyère or cheddar)
- 2 tbsp fresh herbs (dill, parsley, or chives)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil for sautéing
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out your shortcrust pastry and carefully line a 9-inch tart pan, gently pressing into the corners. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.
- Line the pastry with parchment paper and fill with baking beans or rice. Blind bake for 10 minutes, then remove the beans and paper and bake for another 5 minutes until the base is just beginning to color.
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Whisk together eggs, cream, and milk in a large bowl. Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Spread the sautéed onion mixture over the par-baked pastry. Distribute the drained tuna, cherry tomatoes, and half of the grated cheese over the top. Pour the egg mixture over and sprinkle with remaining cheese and herbs.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
