Description

A simple yet flavorful tuna tart that combines pantry staples into a gourmet dish, perfect for dinner or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ready-made shortcrust pastry sheet
  • 2 cans (160g each) of tuna in olive oil, drained
  • 3 large eggs
  • 200ml heavy cream
  • 100ml milk
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup grated cheese (Gruyère or cheddar)
  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs (dill, parsley, or chives)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out your shortcrust pastry and carefully line a 9-inch tart pan, gently pressing into the corners. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.
  2. Line the pastry with parchment paper and fill with baking beans or rice. Blind bake for 10 minutes, then remove the beans and paper and bake for another 5 minutes until the base is just beginning to color.
  3. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Whisk together eggs, cream, and milk in a large bowl. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  5. Spread the sautéed onion mixture over the par-baked pastry. Distribute the drained tuna, cherry tomatoes, and half of the grated cheese over the top. Pour the egg mixture over and sprinkle with remaining cheese and herbs.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve with a green salad or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
