Description

A moist chocolate cake layered with creamy peanut butter frosting and topped with chocolate ganache, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1¾ cups sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons heavy cream (to thin out if needed)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the boiling water gradually. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Beat the softened butter and creamy peanut butter together until smooth.
  8. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract gradually. Mix until fluffy; adjust consistency with heavy cream if needed.
  9. Spread a generous amount of frosting on the first layer of the cooled cake.
  10. Top with the second cake layer and frost the entire cake.
  11. Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until it simmers.
  12. Add chocolate chips, stir until melted and smooth.
  13. Pour the ganache over the frosted cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

Notes

For a fun twist, add chopped Reese’s Cups between the layers for extra flavor.
