- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4–5 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 cup colorful M&M’s
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is thin.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- Make the frosting by beating the softened butter, then gradually adding powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
- Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a serving plate, spreading frosting in between layers, and topping with more frosting.
- Sprinkle colorful M&Ms on top to finish.
- Slice and serve to your loved ones.
Notes
Don’t overmix the batter to keep the cake light and fluffy. Use extra M&Ms for decorating for a fun presentation!
