Ingredients

For the Apple Filling
  • 6 medium medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp works great)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let this sit while you prepare the crumble topping.
  3. In another bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Drizzle in the melted butter and mix until you have a crumbly mixture.
  4. Transfer the apple mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Feel free to mix and match different apple varieties for added flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for that freshly-baked feel. Try adding chopped nuts, dried fruit, or a dash of bourbon to the apple mix for a fun twist.
