Method
Cook the Ziti
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add in the ziti, and cook for about 8 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Bolognese Sauce
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef (or turkey). Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion, garlic, and diced carrot, sauté for about 5 minutes.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Layer It Up
- In a large bowl, mix together the cooked ziti, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella.
- Add in the Bolognese sauce and mix until combined.
- Spread the mixture into a greased baking dish and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
Bake Away
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Serve and Savor
- Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Pair with garlic bread or a salad.
Notes
This dish can be assembled ahead of time. Refrigerate and add an extra 10 minutes to baking time if chilled. Feel free to mix in veggies for added nutrition.
