Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pieces ripe bananas The browner, the better!
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce For a healthier twist
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar Feel free to use less if desired
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or chocolate chips Feel free to add for extra flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mash the ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl using a fork until smooth.
  3. Mix in the melted butter, applesauce, beaten egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture, gradually adding the flour. Mix until just combined.
  5. Optionally, gently stir in walnuts or chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan, smoothing out the top.
  2. Bake for 60-65 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick; if it comes out clean, it’s done.
  3. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Slice and enjoy your delicious Banana Applesauce Bread!

Notes

Banana Ripeness Matters: The browner your bananas, the sweeter your bread will be. Don’t skip the applesauce as it keeps the bread ultra-moist. Every oven is different; if your bread is browning too quickly, cover it with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.
