  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional) Highly recommended for added flavor
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Layering Ingredients
  • 1 cup chocolate cake crumbs Store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup pitted sour cherries Fresh or jarred
  • to taste Cocoa powder or dark chocolate shavings for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Brew a strong cup of coffee and let it chill. If desired, mix in the coffee liqueur.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip until soft peaks form.
  3. In a separate bowl, gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the whipped cream mixture.
Assembly
  1. Dip the chocolate cake crumbs briefly into the coffee mixture and layer at the bottom of your serving dish.
  2. Spoon half of the mascarpone mixture over the cake and scatter half of the cherries on top.
  3. Repeat the layers until ingredients are used up.
  4. Finish with a layer of mascarpone and dust with cocoa powder or dark chocolate shavings.
Chilling
  1. Cover and let your dessert chill in the fridge for at least four hours, or overnight for best flavor.

Notes

The dessert can be customized with different fruit or flavor variations. Ensure not to over-whip the cream to maintain a silky texture.
