Ingredients

For the Doughnut Holes
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour For the doughnut base.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder For leavening.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt To enhance flavor.
  • 1/2 cup milk For moisture.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted For richness.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor.
  • Vegetable oil for frying For frying the doughnuts.
For the Cream Filling
  • 1 cup heavy cream For the filling.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor.
For the Chocolate Ganache
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips For dipping.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream To create the ganache.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into your flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  3. In a deep pot or skillet, heat enough vegetable oil for frying (about 2 inches deep) to 350°F (175°C).
Cooking
  1. Once your oil is hot, use a tablespoon or small scoop to drop the dough into the oil in batches (don’t overcrowd the pan!). Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  3. Once cooled, use a piping bag to fill each doughnut hole with the cream filling.
  4. In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat the cream for the ganache until it begins to simmer. Remove it from the heat and add in the chocolate chips, stirring until smooth.
  5. Dip the top of each filled doughnut hole into the chocolate ganache and let it set, or drizzle it with a spoon for a more artistic flair!

Notes

Don’t skip the filling for the full experience! Make sure to monitor the oil temperature to avoid burnt or greasy doughnuts. You can prepare the dough in advance and refrigerate it.
