- Start by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bratwurst sausages to the pan. Cook them until they’re browned on all sides, about 5–7 minutes.
- Add the sliced onions and apples to the skillet. Stir and let them cook for about 3-5 minutes until the onions are translucent and the apples start softening.
- Pour the sauerkraut over the sausages, onions, and apples. Sprinkle the caraway seeds on top if using. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss everything to mix well.
- Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low, allowing everything to simmer together for about 15–20 minutes.
- Once done, serve the bratwurst on a bed of the sauerkraut mixture, optionally garnishing with fresh parsley.
Notes
If you're in a rush, you can skip browning the sausages, just ensure they cook through. Leftover sauerkraut makes a fantastic topping on sandwiches. A splash of apple cider or beer can enhance the flavor.
