Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds)

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cooking
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.
  2. Stir in the granulated sugar, water, and salt.
  3. Continue stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  4. Keep cooking, stirring constantly until the mixture reaches a golden brown color (about 8-10 minutes).
  5. Remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Quickly pour the toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  7. While the toffee is still warm, sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the top and let them melt for a few minutes before spreading the chocolate evenly.
  8. Sprinkle your chopped nuts over the melted chocolate and press them down slightly.
  9. Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or in the fridge. Once hardened, break it into pieces.

Notes

Keep an eye on the color while cooking; the key to perfect toffee is the golden-brown hue. If you prefer a nut-free option, simply omit the nuts or replace them with other toppings like sprinkles or coconut flakes.
