Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb chicken breast, sliced thinly
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 bell pepper sliced (a mix of colors is nice)
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or more, I won’t judge)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sub rolls (hoagie buns also work great)
Optional Toppings
  • Hot sauce to kick up the flavor
  • Mayonnaise to kick up the flavor

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Once hot, toss in the sliced chicken. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Sauté until the chicken is cooked through—about 5 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Toss in the sliced bell pepper and onion. Sauté everything together for about 3-4 minutes, or until the veggies are tender and the chicken is lightly browned.
  2. Lower the heat to medium and lay the cheese slices over the chicken and veggies. Cover the pan with a lid to help the cheese melt evenly.
  3. After about 2-3 minutes, you’ll have gooey, cheesy goodness!
Assembly
  1. Slice your sub rolls and fill each with the chicken and cheese mixture.
  2. Add extra toppings, if desired.
Serving
  1. Plate your Chicken Philly Cheese Steaks and serve with a side of chips or a fresh salad.
  2. Sit back and wait for the chorus of mmm’s from your family.

Notes

You can add mushrooms or jalapeños for an extra kick. For a vegetarian option, substitute chicken for hearty mushrooms or grilled eggplant.
