  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Chocolate
  • 1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Creaming Time
  1. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.
Add the Eggs & Vanilla
  1. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract.
Mix in Buttermilk
  1. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and finishing with the dry mix.
Choco-Goodness
  1. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
Bake Away
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth out the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Decorate
  1. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

For moistness, serve with a drizzle of chocolate ganache. This cake freezes well—wrap slices in plastic wrap for later.
