Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cans 16.5 oz each cinnamon rolls (with icing)
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work beautifully!
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Optional but encouraged for flavor.
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, sauté the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg over medium heat for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Open the cans of cinnamon rolls and cut each roll into quarters.
  4. Layer half of the cut-up cinnamon rolls at the bottom of the greased dish, then half of the sautéed apples.
  5. Mix softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth, then spread half of this mixture over the apples.
  6. Repeat the layering with the remaining cinnamon rolls, apples, and cream cheese mixture.
  7. Sprinkle remaining cinnamon roll pieces on top and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before drizzling the icing from the cinnamon roll cans over the top.

Notes

For a twist, use any apple variety you have on hand. You can add cardamom or brown sugar to spice up the cinnamon rolls. Chill time enhances flavor and makes slicing easier.
