  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups melted butter Adds richness
  • 3 large eggs Provides structure
  • 1 cup buttermilk The star ingredient
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Optional, but recommended
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour Helps thicken filling
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pre-made pie crust Can be store-bought or homemade

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and melted butter until combined.
  3. Add the eggs and whisk until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the buttermilk and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, then gradually add to the wet mixture.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared pie crust.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until the center is set.
  2. Cool at room temperature before slicing.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or ice cream for added decadence. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days.
