Ingredients
  

Vegetables
  • 2 pounds potatoes Yukon gold recommended, peeled and thinly sliced
Dairy
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar works well
  • 1 cup sour cream For extra creaminess
Spices
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adjust to taste
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
Garnish
  • Fresh chives or parsley For presentation

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel your potatoes and slice them thinly to about 1/8 inch thick.
Assembly
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer potato slices, sprinkling salt, pepper, and a dash of garlic powder between layers.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, sour cream, and 1/2 cup of shredded cheese.
  3. Pour the creamy mixture over the layered potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
Serving
  1. Let the bake cool for a few minutes before sprinkling with fresh chives or parsley and serve.

Notes

For even cooking, ensure potato slices are uniform. Cheese options can be varied for different flavors. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven.
