Preparation
- Start by patting the shrimp dry with a paper towel. Nobody likes soggy shrimp!
- In a bowl, toss the shrimp with cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until they are well-coated.
Cooking
- In a large skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. It’s hot enough when a drop of water sizzles upon contact.
- Carefully add the shrimp to the skillet in batches, making sure not to overcrowd. Fry them for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- In a separate small saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir until well mixed and warm, but do not let it boil.
- Once the shrimp are fried and the glaze is ready, toss the crispy shrimp in the honey sauce until fully coated.
Serving
- Plate them up and maybe add a sprinkle of sesame seeds on top for that extra pizzazz. Serve with rice or on a bed of greens.
Notes
Cooking Tips: 1. If you’re cooking for a crowd, it’s best to fry the shrimp in batches to keep them crispy. 2. Don’t skip the drying step! Patting the shrimp dry is crucial. 3. Want to kick it up a notch? Consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the glaze for some heat!
