Ingredients

For the Shrimp
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined Extra points if they’re wild-caught!
  • 1 cup cornstarch For that ultra-crispy texture
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder Because who doesn’t love garlic?
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil For frying; you need just enough to cover the bottom of your skillet
For the Honey Glaze
  • 1/2 cup honey Sweet, sticky goodness!
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Adds that umami flavor
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar For a hint of tang

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by patting the shrimp dry with a paper towel. Nobody likes soggy shrimp!
  2. In a bowl, toss the shrimp with cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until they are well-coated.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. It’s hot enough when a drop of water sizzles upon contact.
  2. Carefully add the shrimp to the skillet in batches, making sure not to overcrowd. Fry them for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.
  3. Transfer the shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  4. In a separate small saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir until well mixed and warm, but do not let it boil.
  5. Once the shrimp are fried and the glaze is ready, toss the crispy shrimp in the honey sauce until fully coated.
Serving
  1. Plate them up and maybe add a sprinkle of sesame seeds on top for that extra pizzazz. Serve with rice or on a bed of greens.

Notes

Cooking Tips: 1. If you’re cooking for a crowd, it’s best to fry the shrimp in batches to keep them crispy. 2. Don’t skip the drying step! Patting the shrimp dry is crucial. 3. Want to kick it up a notch? Consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the glaze for some heat!
