Ingredients

For the shrimp
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying
For the glaze
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
For garnish
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, finely sliced

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss the shrimp in this dry mixture until evenly coated.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  2. Transfer the shrimp to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey and soy sauce. Pour this mix into the skillet and heat until it begins to bubble.
  4. Add the crispy shrimp back to the skillet and toss them gently in the glaze until fully coated.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, garnished with freshly chopped green onions.

Notes

For an extra level of crunch, double-dip the shrimp by first coating them in beaten egg before the flour mixture. If the glaze feels a bit lumpy, just stir a little longer. Serve the glaze on the side for picky eaters.
