Method
Preparation
- Start by bringing a large pot of water to a boil.
- Carefully peel away 8-10 large cabbage leaves from the head.
- Toss the cabbage leaves into the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until they are pliable enough to roll.
Filling Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef or turkey with the cooked rice, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Mix together until well blended.
Rolling the Cabbage
- Grab softened cabbage leaves and place a generous spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each leaf.
- Fold in the sides and roll from the bottom up.
- Place these rolls seam-side down in your slow cooker.
Cooking
- Pour the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce evenly over the cabbage rolls.
- Cover the slow cooker and set it on low for 6-8 hours.
Serving
- Once cooked, ladle the rolls onto plates, add some cheese on top if desired, and serve.
Notes
Use two overlapping cabbage leaves if any tear occurs. Feel free to add different herbs or chili flakes for extra flavor. Accompany with crusty bread or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
