Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk (warmed)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Allow it to rest for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix well until a dough forms.
  3. Incorporate the melted butter into the mixture and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Form your dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, and cover it with plastic wrap. Chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
Rolling and Folding
  1. After the dough has chilled, roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface. Place the cold cubed butter in the center.
  2. Fold the dough over the butter to encase it, then roll it out again and fold into thirds. Repeat this process two more times.
Shaping & Baking
  1. After the final fold, roll the dough into a rectangle, cut it into triangles, and roll each triangle up from the wide side.
  2. Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet and allow them to rise for about 30-45 minutes.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the buns with a beaten egg and bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden.
  4. Let the buns cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

For added flavor, mix in chocolate chips or sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top before baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze them for later enjoyment.
