Ingredients
  

For the crust
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Sifted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the custard filling
  • 4 large eggs Room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk Warm
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
For the topping
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For dusting

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, melted butter, and salt until combined.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
Custard Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add in the warm milk and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. Sift in the cornstarch and stir until there are no lumps.
Baking
  1. Pour the custard mixture over the crust in the baking pan.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and lightly golden on top.
Finishing Touches
  1. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
  2. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

These custard cream cake bars can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Enhance the flavor by adding lemon zest to the custard mixture.
