Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with a little butter or cooking spray.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and half of the minced garlic.
- Sprinkle a cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the potatoes.
- In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, milk, melted butter, onion powder, and the remaining garlic. Pour this mixture over the layered potatoes.
- Layer the remaining potatoes on top and pour the rest of the cream mixture. Finish with another generous layer of shredded cheese.
Baking
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving to avoid burns.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.
Notes
Make ahead: assemble the dish a day in advance and refrigerate. Reheat in the oven when ready to serve. Feel free to add cooked vegetables or protein like broccoli or ham.
