  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For the Topping
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Feel free to substitute with milk or dark chocolate.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Almonds, pecans, or any preferred type.

Preparation
  1. Start by lining an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a heavy-bottom saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Cooking
  1. Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, water, and salt. Bring to a rolling boil, stirring occasionally.
  2. Raise heat to medium-high and cook while stirring constantly until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the hot toffee into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  5. Let it cool completely.
Finishing Touches
  1. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  2. Pour the melted chocolate over the cooled toffee, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top and press gently.
  3. Chill in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens. Break the toffee into pieces.

Notes

For best results, keep a close eye on the sugar while boiling to avoid burning. Toast nuts in the oven for enhanced flavor.
