- Start by lining an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a heavy-bottom saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Cooking
- Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, water, and salt. Bring to a rolling boil, stirring occasionally.
- Raise heat to medium-high and cook while stirring constantly until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot toffee into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Let it cool completely.
Finishing Touches
- Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the cooled toffee, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top and press gently.
- Chill in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens. Break the toffee into pieces.
