Preparation
- Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth and remove the stems if desired.
- In one bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk.
Dredging and Frying
- Dip each mushroom into the buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then coat in the flour mixture.
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Carefully place the battered mushrooms into the hot oil, frying for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Finishing Touch
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
Notes
For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour mixture. Ensure oil temperature is adequate to avoid sogginess or burning.
