Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into slices
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • to taste red pepper flakes (optional) For added spice.

Method

Preparation
  1. Season the flank steak generously with salt and pepper.
Grilling
  1. Preheat your grill to high heat. Grill the seasoned steak for about 6-8 minutes on each side for medium-rare or until it reaches your desired doneness. If you don’t have a grill, a stovetop grill pan works great too.
Balsamic Dressing
  1. Combine the balsamic vinegar and olive oil in a small bowl. Whisk until well-mixed. Optionally, add a teaspoon of honey for sweetness.
Slicing and Assembling
  1. Once the flank steak is done, let it rest for about 5-10 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.
  2. On a large serving platter, layer the sliced steak, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil leaves. Drizzle the balsamic dressing over the top.

Notes

Make sure to let the steak rest to keep the juices intact. Feel free to swap out the tomatoes or cheese based on what you have on hand.
