Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey if you're feeling fancy) You can substitute with ground turkey for a healthier option.
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 each bell pepper (red or green), thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or your cheese of choice) Provolone is recommended for best flavor.
  • 4 each hoagie rolls
  • as needed olive oil For sautéing.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, heat a splash of olive oil over medium heat. Toss in the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté until they're beautifully softened and just beginning to caramelize, around 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to your skillet. Break it apart with a spatula, cooking until it’s browned through, about 8 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for an additional minute.
  4. Lay the provolone slices over the beef mixture, covering it completely. Cover the skillet for a couple of minutes until the cheese melts.
  5. Slice the hoagie rolls and toast them lightly if desired.
  6. Scoop the cheesy beef mixture into the rolls, making sure each is generously packed.
  7. Plate the cheesesteaks and serve, optionally with chips or a salad.
