  • 1.5 pounds round steak Use flank or sirloin as substitutes if desired.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning the steak.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water For thickening the gravy.
  • to taste Fresh parsley For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Sprinkle salt and pepper all over the round steak.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Add the round steak to the skillet and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  2. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping the bottom of the pan to release flavors.
  5. Return the round steak to the pan, cover, and let simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes.
  6. Mix cornstarch with water, pour into the gravy while stirring, and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes until thickened.
Serving
  1. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or salad.

Notes

Make ahead for better flavors. Blend the gravy for a smoother consistency for picky eaters. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to four days.
