Preparation
- Peel, core, and slice the apples.
Mixing Ingredients
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until well coated.
Cooking
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook the apple mixture while stirring occasionally, until the apples soften and the mixture begins to bubble, about 5-10 minutes.
Finishing Touch
- Just before removing from heat, stir in the butter until melted and mixed through.
Cooling
- Allow filling to cool completely before using. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Notes
Feel free to add a splash of bourbon or vanilla extract while cooking for a twist. This filling can also be frozen for later use.
