Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.
- Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Use a wooden spoon to mix until combined.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise until doubled in size (about one hour).
Baking
- After rising, punch down the dough gently and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the loaf in a greased loaf pan and cover it again to rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool the bread in the pan for a few minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.
Notes
Monitor the dough temperature; yeast loves warmth. Feel free to add herbs or cheese for flavor. Bread freezes well when wrapped tight in foil.
