Ingredients
  

For the Crust
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Filling
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped Use fresh pecans for best flavor.
  • 1 cup caramel candies, unwrapped Choose good-quality caramel candies.
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
For Topping
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional, but recommended for extra flavor.
  • A sprinkle of sea salt Optional, but highly recommended.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, brown sugar, and salt. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Pat this mixture into the bottom of an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  4. Bake for about 15 minutes, until it’s lightly golden.
Filling
  1. In a saucepan over low heat, combine the pecans, caramel candies, and sweetened condensed milk, stirring until the caramel is melted and all ingredients are well combined.
  2. Pour the caramel mixture onto the baked crust and spread it evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the caramel mixture, gently pressing them in.
Baking
  1. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  2. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. For neat bars, chill in the fridge for about an hour after cutting. These bars freeze well; wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil.
