  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast One packet is sufficient.
  • ½ cup warm milk Around 110°F.
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 large egg Essential for the doughnut.
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour For the classic texture.
  • ½ teaspoon salt A little pinch goes a long way.
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted Butter enhances the flavor.
  • to taste Oil for frying Any neutral oil will work.
Glaze Ingredients
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar The main ingredient for the glaze.
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk For achieving glaze consistency.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor to the glaze.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, egg, melted butter, and the yeast mixture until smooth.
  3. Gradually mix in flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until elastic and smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
Cooking
  1. Punch the dough down, roll it out to about ½-inch thick, and cut out circles.
  2. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F.
  3. Carefully drop the doughnuts into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 1 minute on each side. Monitor them to prevent burning.
Glazing
  1. While the doughnuts cool slightly, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Dip the warm doughnuts in the glaze and sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles if desired.
Serving
  1. Enjoy your freshly made doughnuts with a cup of coffee!

Notes

Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the correct temperature. If in a hurry, these can also be baked in a doughnut pan. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
