Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Get in there with your hands, but don’t over-mix.
- Form the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about 1/2 inch thick. You should get about 4-6 patties.
Cooking
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining butter and sprinkle in the flour, whisking until it forms a nice, golden paste. Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking. Let it simmer until it thickens.
- Add the patties back into the pan with the gravy and simmer for about 5 minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
Serving
- Plate your Salisbury steak, spoon the gravy generously over the top, and garnish with chopped parsley.
Notes
Don't skimp on browning the patties, as it adds wonderful flavor to your gravy. Leftover patties can be used for sandwiches.
