  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs

Optional Toppings

  • to taste chocolate glaze

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, melted butter, and eggs. Stir until well combined.
Mixing the Batter
  1. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently fold until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters.
Frying the Doughnuts
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Gently place the doughnut shapes into the hot oil, frying for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel to drain.
Finishing Touches
  1. While warm, roll in powdered sugar, dip in chocolate glaze, or sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
