Ingredients

Bread Ingredients
  • 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded Italian cheese blend (mozzarella, provolone, etc.)
  • 2 tablespoons dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme) Or your favorites
  • optional Fresh herbs for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5–10 minutes until it’s frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and dried herbs. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Stir until a dough begins to form. Turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Once risen, punch down your dough to release the air. Fold in the cheese until fully incorporated.
  6. Shape the dough into a loaf or divide it into smaller rolls. Place it in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
  8. Let your bread cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes.

Notes

For cheesy goodness, you can try adding different cheeses like cheddar or feta. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
