  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 4 pieces burger buns Feel free to go whole grain for a healthier option!
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
For the Balsamic Caramelized Onions
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar Optional, for added sweetness
  • a pinch salt

Method

Caramelize the Onions
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sprinkle a pinch of salt.
  3. Sauté the onions slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until they turn golden brown.
  4. If desired, add a teaspoon of sugar to enhance sweetness.
  5. Once caramelized, deglaze the pan with balsamic vinegar and stir. Set aside.
Prepare the Turkey
  1. In a bowl, combine the ground turkey, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.
Form Patties
  1. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties.
  2. Create a slight indentation in the center of each patty to promote even cooking.
Cook the Burgers
  1. In the same skillet, add more olive oil and heat over medium heat.
  2. Cook the turkey patties for about 5-7 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  3. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of provolone cheese on each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.
Assemble the Burgers
  1. Toast the burger buns lightly if desired.
  2. Layer the bottom bun with a turkey patty, top it with balsamic caramelized onions, and add the top bun.

Notes

For picky eaters, consider mixing in grated zucchini or carrot into the meat mixture for extra nutrition. Cook extra patties and store them in the fridge for easy meals later.
