  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Brings buttery goodness.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Secret to all things delicious.
  • 2 large eggs
Mix-Ins
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use dark, milk, or a mix.
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained and chopped Star of the show.
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Optional for added crunch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, stirring until well combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips, maraschino cherries, and walnuts if using.
Baking
  1. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before lifting them out with the parchment paper.
  4. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

You can prepare the batter ahead of time and bake fresh. Experiment with chocolate types or add coconut for a twist. Serve warm with ice cream for ultimate delight!
