Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, stirring until well combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, maraschino cherries, and walnuts if using.
Baking
- Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before lifting them out with the parchment paper.
