Ingredients
  

Meat and Sauce Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage Choose your preferred ground meat.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
Cheese Filling Ingredients
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Divided usage
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Divided usage
Lasagna Assembly Ingredients
  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium heat until no longer pink. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with the egg and half of the Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  5. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
Assembly
  1. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in a baking dish. Layer three noodles over that, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella cheese, and another layer of meat sauce. Repeat the layers.
  2. For the top layer, finish with noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  2. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting.

Notes

You can sneak in some spinach, zucchini, or mushrooms into the meat sauce for extra nutrition. Lasagna can be made ahead and stored in the fridge or frozen for later use.
