  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage can use mild or spicy
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cups marinara sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 12-15 pieces lasagna noodles cook according to package instructions
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage together until well browned. Drain any excess grease, and season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  3. In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt.
Layering and Baking
  1. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place a layer of noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, half of the meat mixture, and a sprinkle of mozzarella. Repeat the layers, ending with noodles topped with marinara sauce and a generous layer of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Let the lasagna sit for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

You can assemble the lasagna a day ahead and store it in the fridge. For a healthier twist, consider using zucchini slices instead of traditional noodles.
