Dry Ingredients
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup mayonnaise Use flavored mayo for an additional hint of flavor.
  • 1 cup water Warm water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting (Optional)
  • 1 stick butter Softened
  • to taste cups powdered sugar For frosting.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add in the mayonnaise, warm water, and vanilla extract. Stir until beautifully combined.
  4. Grease your favorite cake pan(s) and pour in the batter.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Frosting
  1. Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  2. If desired, frost with softened butter and powdered sugar.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for about 3-4 days.
