Ingredients

Meat and Cheese
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey You can use either, depending on your preference.
  • 4 slices provolone cheese Or your favorite cheese.
Vegetables
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 each green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms Optional, but highly recommended.
Sauces and Seasonings
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
Buns
  • 4 each hamburger buns Soft and toasted, if possible.

Method

Cooking the Meat
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add your ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once done, drain any excess fat and set the meat aside.
Sautéing the Veggies
  1. In the same skillet, toss in the onion, green bell pepper, and mushrooms, if you're including them. Sauté these for about 5-7 minutes until they're soft and fragrant.
Mixing It Together
  1. Add the minced garlic and cooked meat back to the skillet. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let this simmer for about 10 minutes.
Adding the Cheese
  1. Just before serving, place a slice of provolone cheese on top of the meat mixture, cover the skillet, and let it melt.
Assembling the Sloppy Joes
  1. Spoon the cheesy meat mixture onto your toasted hamburger buns. Don’t skimp on the filling; make it nice and hefty.
Serving
  1. Serve these bad boys with your favorite sides, whether it be chips, a salad, or the classic pickles.

Notes

Feel free to customize with jalapeños for spice or extra veggies. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat with more cheese if desired.
