For the Dough
  • 1.5 cups warm water (around 110°F) Essential for activating yeast

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Main ingredient for pretzel dough

  • 0.25 cups baking soda For boiling the pretzel bites
For the Blue Cheese Dip
  • 0.5 cups crumbled blue cheese Alternative cheeses can be used
  • 0.5 cups cream cheese, softened Creates a creamy base
  • 0.25 cups sour cream Adds tanginess
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (like chives or parsley) Fresh herbs enhance the dip's flavor
  • Salt and pepper to taste Use according to preference
For the Topping
  • Coarse sea salt For sprinkling on top before baking

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in the flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead on a clean surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Boil a large pot of water and stir in the baking soda.
  2. Punch down the dough, divide it into small pieces, roll each into a ball and boil in the baking soda water for 30 seconds.
  3. Place boiled pretzel bites on a parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
Make the Dip
  1. Combine crumbled blue cheese, softened cream cheese, sour cream, chopped herbs, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Mix until creamy.
Serve
  1. Serve the warm pretzel bites alongside the blue cheese dip.

Notes

Feel free to use a substitute cheese if blue cheese isn’t preferred. Fresh herbs will greatly enhance the flavor.
