Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8x8-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Stir until well combined.
- Add in the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Slowly add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined.
- Add the red food coloring to the batter, mixing until it’s vibrant.
Baking
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges start to pull away from the sides.
Frosting
- While the brownies cool, blend the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Gradually add in the powdered sugar, then stir in the vanilla.
- Frost the brownies once they’re cool, spreading the creamy mixture generously on top.
Serving
- Cut them into squares to serve or eat directly from the baking dish.
Notes
If you have leftovers, store these brownies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. They also freeze well!
