Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and softened butter until light and fluffy.
- Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix just until combined.
- Fold in the diced apples gently.
Baking
- Pour about half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Drizzle with half of the caramel sauce, then pour the remaining batter on top.
- Top with the rest of the caramel sauce and sprinkle sea salt over everything.
- Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra flavor, sauté diced apples in a bit of butter and sprinkle with brown sugar before adding to the batter. If the caramel sauce is lumpy, call it 'rustic charm'!
