Preparation
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it gets frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center, then add the melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
Assembly
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down. Roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
- Spread your fillings: sprinkle the cheese, cooked spinach, and any optional meats evenly over the dough. Roll it up tightly.
- Cut the rolled dough into 1-inch pieces and place them in a greased baking dish. Let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle some sesame seeds or herbs on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Notes
Make-Ahead Magic: Shape rolls a day before and place them in the fridge overnight. Let them rise for about 30 minutes before baking. Customize fillings as desired!
